Looking for a Roommate - Female

132 comments:

  1. Wow, so apparently I'm the first poster!
Looking for two roommates to share a double-occupancy room. I've requested a rollaway cot for the third guest. (At the last ATA Conference I attended, no. 55 in San Antonio, I had two roommates and we rotated sleeping on the rollaway cot so that no one person would be stuck sleeping on the cot for the entire Conference and it worked out well.)
Full disclosure: I snore, but it's soft and not obnoxious (or so I'm told). Just the same, if you're a light sleeper you will want to use earplugs, just in case. Other than that, I'm a good roommate - I promise! :-)
I'm ATA-certified in Spanish to English and have been translating for 19 years ... whew! This will be my fifth ATA Conference.

  2. More information: Total cost for 5 nights, dbl occupancy, 3 guests (2 dbl beds + 1 rollaway cot) comes to $1487.19 ($1275.00 for the room plus $212.19 in taxes). For 3 people this comes to $495.73 per person or $99.14 per night - cheap!! For 2 people this comes to $743.59 per person or $148.71 per night - still affordable!

  3. Hello Mary, I would be happy to share a room, I promise to be a good roommate too: I am a non-smoker and non-snorer:-) I am pretty new to ATA although I have a professional experience of 19 years among which over 9 years in the translation industry. My main language combination is English into French and my secondary combinations are Danish and Swedish into French. I am very excited to take part in this event for the first time in my life!

    2. Hi Maria Elena et al,
Monique and I are going to room together. Initially we were looking for a third roommate to share with the two of us, rotating the use of the beds and a rollaway cot, but I was told by the host hotel that due to fire code restrictions we could not have a rollaway cot. Don't know if that's actually true or not, since I've seen that other conference goers with accommodations at the host hotel have been able to get a third roommate, but that's what I was told. :-/ Good luck, everyone.

  5. Hi everyone, I have booked a double room with check-in on Wednesday Nov 2 and check-out on Sunday Nov 6, and I am looking for a roommate for those dates. This will be my second ATA conference, and I'll be flying from France.
I may experience light snoring, but otherwise I am a pretty standard roommate! Non-smoker, not a party animal, and will definitely respect different bedtimes, as needed. Feel free to contact me at nelia@babeliane.com or on Twitter (@babeliane) or LinkedIn.

  6. Hello everyone,

I have booked a "double/double" room for Tuesday Nov 1st through Sunday November 6th and am looking for a roommate (or 2 roommates - using a cot is an option). Not a snorer, to the best of my knowledge, and do not party (that I know for certain).

If you are interested, please get in touch: ekaterinahoward@gmail.com.

  7. Howdy all,
Monique Longton and I need one more roommate. I already have a room booked, double/double + rollaway cot. We are cool with rotating nights on the cot so no one person will get stuck sleeping on the cot for the whole Conference. Full disclosure: I snore, but it's soft and not obnoxious (or so I'm told). Just the same, if you're a light sleeper you will want to use earplugs, just in case. Other than that, I'm a good roommate - I promise! And so is Monique. :-) Total cost for 5 nights, dbl occupancy, 3 guests (2 dbl beds + 1 rollaway cot) comes to $1487.19 ($1275.00 for the room plus $212.19 in taxes). For 3 people this comes to $495.73 per person or $99.14 per night - cheap!!

  8. Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a roommate (double/double, non-snorer, non-smoker) from Oct 29 (check-in) to Nov 6 (check-out). Considering the long flight and being interested in some tourist activities, I plan to arrive well before the conference. Maybe there's someone who would also like to see more than just the conference?

I'd prefer two people in the room, so total cost for the full period would amount to approx. 1230 USD per person (Oct 29-Oct 31 are not charged with the conference rate but higher). Of course, you can also opt for a shorter period with a relevant cheaper share for you.
I attended the three conferences already and found the roommate solution always worthwhile.

  10. Having attended graduate school at UC-Berkeley, I'm excited to be returning to the Bay Area for my second ATA conference. I was in Chicago in 2014 and had a great time. I'll be arriving in CA a couple of days early, but I plan to stay with friends in Berkeley for the first two nights (but, see note below). I live in Germany, but I'll be flying to CA from NC, where I'll visit family prior to the conference.

I'm introverted but not antisocial, reasonably tidy but not compulsive. I'll be withdrawing to the hotel room between sessions to regroup and talk to my kids (on the East Coast) once a day on the phone. I don't feel comfortable sharing a bed, so I'm looking for one (female) roommate only. (Roll-aways are not allowed in the double rooms.)

I've already reserved a room for Nov. 2-5, but it is possible to cancel that if someone else has, as well. I'd also be willing to change the reservation if necessary to Nov. 1-5 to accommodate someone who is a good fit.

  18. Hello! I'm Clarisa (English, French > Spanish translator), from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I can also speak Italian.
This will be my first time in the USA, and I want to visit San Francisco and Napa Valley (not just to arrive to the conference!), thus I have made a reservation for two persons from the 30 Oct to 7 Nov. I could not find the cheapest rooms, thus I had to book a nice Bayview King room (more expensive, unfortunatedly).
The total cost, for two persons, is USD 2706. It excludes taxes (16,25%).
I do not smoke, I ignore if I snore (my husband has never told me if I do), I think I'm friendly, open minded, and I will be very glad to have a roommate from any country!
About me: I'm 55 years old, I've been translating for almost 30 years, and I get along with people from 18 to 91 years old!

  24. Hello, hola, ciao, bonjour!

My name is Carolina and I am looking for 3 amazing female roommates to share a Business Plan Double room at the Hyatt Regency for 3 nights (Nov. 2-5). I am an English into Spanish translator currently living in Los Angeles and this is the first time I will be attending an ATA conference. I enjoy meeting people from other cultures and my two main goals for this event are to learn a lot and have a great time. I do not smoke or snore, so I hope we can agree on that for the sake of everyone who will be staying in the same room. :)

The total cost for 3 nights (check in: Nov. 2 & check out: Nov. 5) is $1,988 divided into 4 people. This means you will be paying around $497 for your stay. Also, there are two double beds, so you should expect to share the bed with me or another lovely lady.

    2. Hi Susana,

Are you still looking for roommates? I emailed you, but the email bounced back for some reason. I'm interested in sharing a room with you and in the EatWith events :)

  41. Does anybody with a room at the Hyatt with 2 double beds want 2 more roommates? I was offered a room with a friend at a hotel 2 blocks away but we'd really rather stay at the conference hotel and split room by 4 people to save money. I spend so little time in the room...Thanks in advance! ruthhollard@rhtrad.com

  42. I think it comes out to about 82$/night/person (including extra fee for extra people + taxes) if split by 4 people

  43. Hello!

I'm looking for a roomate/mates, preferably at the Hyatt. They are apparently out of the ATA rate rooms, so ideally it would be with someone who booked already (I wasn't sure if I would go or not and didn't book in time, alas). I am planning on the 1st-6th. I will definitely drink, but not to excess, and I can't think of anything I do that would prevent someone from cohabiting peacefully with me for a few days (no sleepwalking....which is actually really creepy and disorienting when you see someone do it, as did I at a different professional conference). Anyway, please write at alyssa.yorgan@gmail.com if you are looking for someone to split the bill and, hopefully, the stress.

  46. I have now booked a room which can be cancelled if I happen to get a room at the Hyatt still. But if anyone else is still looking: this hotel is only 0.3 miles away from the Hyatt and looks pretty good. Good reviews and fairly economical. $220 for nonrefundable or $237 for refundable

  47. Hi,

Is anyone still looking for a roommate? I finally made up my mind to attend, taking advantage of the last day of the early-bird rate. I'm American and have lived in Colombia for the past several years. Non-smoker, friendly, my second conference. Not at all picky about the arrangements, and definitely interested in exploring the area in the evenings.

    1. Found a roommate! We booked what looks like a nice room at the Hotel Griffon, which is just a block and a half away. It came to around $150 per person per night. Looking forward to meeting everyone in November!

  48. Hi, everyone! I My name is Deborah and I will be attending the conference in November. My husband and I planned on going together, but in the end it was not a good time for him to miss work, so I am going on my own. I have a reservation for a king size bed at the Hyatt Embarcadero from November 1st -6 at the early rate of $210. I just called the Hyatt and they can change it to two dobles at a slightly higher rate: $230. If someone is interested in sharing I will call and make the change. I am a non-smoker English to Spanish translator :)

  51. Hi ladies! My name is Yvonne and I'm Irish. Was a teacher and p/t translator for over 30 years but full time translator since 2009 (Sp & Fr to En). Going to my first ATA conference and it's also my first time in SF.
Is anyone still looking for a bed? I booked a twin room from 1-6 Nov inclusive at a cheapish hotel, the "Grant Plaza", 465 Grant Avenue, Chinatown, not too far from the Embarcadero, as I was hoping a friend could come with me (but she can't make it). I'm happy enough on my own in the twin room but if someone is still looking there's a single bed available, and it will cost you around $70 a night plus 14% and 2.25% taxes. You don't have to stay all 6 nights either. I'm actually arriving 27th October but staying in another hotel the first few nights. I like to socialise and do some tourist bits but prefer non-snorers! Get in touch if you're interested. yvonneg06@yahoo.co.uk

  57. Hi everyone, I figure this might be a long shot but I thought I would ask. :)

Is anyone looking for a room only for Tuesday (Nov. 1)? I'm presenting early on Wednesday so I need to be at the conference hotel, but my roommate does not come in until Wednesday.

Alternatively, does anyone need a roommate at the conference hotel for Tuesday? If so, I could try to shorten my own reservation.

    Thank you!
